On the second day of Amsterdam Fashion Week, I went to the shows of Zyanya Keizer and Tony Cohen. On the third day I went to the SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers show. For this MBFWA report, I decided to combine these three shows. I was lucky enough to be present at quite a lot of shows this fashion week, so otherwise your feeds would flood with fashion week posts by me, haha! In this post, I’m showing you some photos that I took at these shows. And for all three shows, I also wrote a short text about the inspiration behind the collection and I’m sharing my favorite pieces! I hope you’ll like it!
The spring/summer 2016 collection of SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers is called ‘LOVE’. The collection’s theme is described by Dr. Reeves quote “…nothing is stronger than the laws of the Universe, but on Earth, nothing is stronger than LOVE.” There are a lot of arrows in the collection, which refer to both rockets and Cupid’s arrows. The Spijkers sisters had a muse in Margaret Hamilton, who made the code which was used to land the first rocket on the moon. Also, their well known graphic prints and outstanding use of color were very visible in this collection. These two components are the main reason I always love the Spijkers & Spijkers collections! As for the hair, the models in this show were sporting fab 70s style afro hair do’s. My favorites from this collection are the white ensemble with the sheer blouse and A-line skirt, the blue dress with red pockets, and the dress with four different pastel colors. Also, I really fell for the cropped shiny bomber jacket! I really like bomber jackets, but I never really find ones which match my style. But this one would fit really well in my collection!
The collection of Zyanya Keizer is called ‘HAVEN’ and is inspired by albinism in in Africa. The idea is that everyone deserves a safe haven. In Africa, people with albinism don’t have this, because they are rejected by family and chased by witch hunters. Zyanya created this collection in collaboration with Dutch foundation ‘Stichting Afrikaanse Albino’s’ to create awareness for the suppression of albino’s in Africa. I must say, this collection was very intriguing. I really loved the use of materials and the special shapes. Also, the models were walking on white sand. And they kept posing for a few minutes after the show ended, such that everyone got a chance to see the designs up close. My favorites are the white beaded skirt and crop top, the white arty see-through ensemble and the fringe dress. And I totally fell in love with the white cut-out shoes!
The SS16 collection of Tony Cohen is called ‘Back To Square One’. With this collection he went back to the core of his brand and his designs. There are more straight and square silhouettes in this collection. The collection consists of black, white, gold, creme and green colored ensembles, combined with graphical prints. These prints are mostly done by artisan embroideries. The golden lips were also an outstanding subject in this collection, which I personally think was a great final touch! My favorites from this collection are the black sheer skirt with white flowers and the final gold-ish dress.
So, what do you think of these collections? And do you have any favorites?
