Hello there!
July 17, 2014
Hi loves!
EN: So, here is my MBFWA report, finally! I’ve been working so hard finishing the bed room! The boyfriend had a day off yesterday, so it was the perfect day to put our big new closet together! Big highlight of course, haha! Today I’m going to put all my clothes in there! I will probably have to iron about 75% of all my clothes, but it will all be worth it! Well, off to the topic of this post; FashionWeek Amsterdam! In total, I went to three shows this fashion week: SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers, Dorhout Mees and David Laport. I actually cannot really tell which show I liked best. They all contained items I really wanted to have! In this post I’m telling you how these three designers got inspired for their collections, what elements of the shows I expect to see in next year’s spring and summer fashion and I’m showing you my favorite looks and items! I hope you’ll like it! |

EN: The collection by Spijkers & Spijkers is inspired by Josephine Baker, a famous American-French singer from the 30s. This translated into cheetahs printed on tops and dresses (Josephine owned a cheetah) and banana prints (because of the famous banana skirt which she wore). Also, the signature style of the Spijkers ladies was evident in the collection. My favorite item was the white baseball jacket. Normally, baseball jackets are not really my cup of tea, but this white specimen looks so chique! I can already imagine combining it with a rock ‘n roll circle dress and derby’s! Also, I’m always a fan of the feminine skirts and dresses by Spijkers & Spijkers! Elements I expect will be presented in the spring/summer 2015 trends are the skirt lengths (midi isn’t going anywhere just yet!), showing off that mid riff, fun prints (always good in summer!) and gold! |

EN: Dorhout Mees got inspired by the ability of water crystals to transform under the influence of their invironment. When tears of happiness and sadness were observed under a microscope, it appeared that the tears of happiness existed of beautifully balanced crystals and the crystals of the tears of sadness showed unbalanced, almost broken, shapes. Dorhout Mees found this so fascinating that she translated it into a collection with geometric shapes which change under influence of the wearer. The 5th look of the above collage is my absolute favorite of this show. The skirt with the extra layers on the sides is beautiful and the top is also really my thing! Also, I’m a huge fan of the shapes, ruffles and colours in this collection. From this collection I think ruffle tops, skirts with ruffles on top (sort of enhanced version of peplum), sheer garments and layered skirts might become part of the 2015 summer fashion! |

EN: David Laport was inspired by his fascination for insects. This can be seen in the materials and shapes he used in the collection. My favorite wearable items from the collection are the cobalt blue top and the three dresses in which the sheer fish scale-like fabric is used. I would love to wear them on a night out! And wow, that last look definitely stands out for me! It’s not wearable at all, but what a gorgeous masterpiece of art it is! Parts from this collection that might become or stay trends next summer could be the midi lenghts, sheer fabric, leather and maybe even the feather skirts, I’m hoping!
So, which are your favorite looks and/or pieces from these shows? Did you visit Amsterdam Fashion Week yourself? And which was your favorite show? I would love to know! |
